These were my reactions to Amy about the Oscar nominations. Why is this called the Gay Superbowl? I love this stuff!

Benjamin Button — 13 noms? Good film, but it won’t do well, though. Most artistic categories have better choices.
Anjolina Jolie in the Changeling? I would have nominated Meryl Streep in Mama Mia over that one! Serious scenery chewing.
What happened to Kristin Scott Thomas’ nomination for “I’ve Loved You So Long?”
Locks: WALL-E, Heath Ledger, Man on Wire (best doc)
Pleasant surprise — best actress & screenplay for Frozen River. Very little seen film, but reportedly quite deserving.
Same with Happy-Go-Lucky for screenplay, a Mike Leigh film that I want to see. Both of these films were indies.
The Reader for best picture? Haven’t heard that level of praise for it, but it still interested me.
Revolutionary Road = 3 noms, nothing for Kate or Leo or screenplay or anything like that, confirming my desire to not see this movie.
Whoa!! Robert Downey for Tropic Thunder supporting actor?! A comedy role nominated? Cool!
Foreign language = Waltz with Bashir vs The Class.
Two Hindi language songs from Slumdog got nominated? And only one other song (P Gabriel from WALL-E)? Wow.
‘Presto’ got nominated! Yay!
Viola Davis got nominated for Doubt. That was the most “called” acting nomination aside from Heath Ledger that I read about all year. Great scene she was in, but only one scene.
Marisa Tomei nomination — ya know, maybe that statue from ‘My Cousin Vinny’ wasn’t such a fluke?
Revising my Man on Wire lock — forgot about the Werner Herzog doc, ‘Encounters at the End of the World.’ He could win out of respect for his overall body of work. Doubtful though.
Clint Eastwood = shut out. Richard Jenkins nominated for Best Actor instead of Clint’s Gran Torino role. No director nod, either. Well, his mantle is pretty full already.
First year in a while that all five BP noms also had their directors nominated. There’s usually one film that apparently directs itself, but not in 2008.
